History isn't a foreign land. It's not a place you can go. My dad has a vivid memory of seeing the polio ward as a kid. I'm good without having it, so thanks. Hopefully, we don't have to find out why your work is important the hard way.

I'm headed up the end of October after the Salmon should be done to try at the browns and bows that go after eggs. Hopefully, pressure dies down by then. It's a "I can't afford Alaska" this year trip.

Great Lakes salmon and steelhead runs are closer and cheaper. Found out the Salmon River in upstate NY is only 5 hours from the house. I've driven longer to SCA events I didn't want to go to.

Gunpowder is probably the best trout river close to you, but it's heavily pressured. The browns spook easy. Hiking 5 miles for 2-3 is a good day for me.
If you aren't weeded to trout, I'd try the Patuxent next to Savage Mill. Might be some holdover stockers, but plenty of fallfish and smallmouth.
