HARD TRUTHS' lived-in screenplay is something I'd expect nothing less from Leigh. Never afraid to cut to the core of life & his characters. He doesn't shy away from acknowledging what weighs on us all: pain. Wonderfully contrasting & partnered performances from Baptiste & Austin.

KNEECAP is a bombastic and stylish biopic that acts as a cathartic FU to the Brits, but outside of its style and what it's trying to say, is it really that strong of a political statement?

I think DAHOMEY has some really great moments, but as a whole, I don't think it works as well as it should because of its length. It doesn't have enough time to expound upon its ideas and imagery to exhibit the power of taking back one's culture back from colonialism.

A DIFFERENT MAN is an interesting and thought-provoking dark comedy that gets kinda bonkers and we're all the better for it. Reinsve is hilariously odd, Pearson lights up the screen with his charm & charisma and Stan gives a career best performance filled with quiet jealousy.

BABYGIRL is a really fun game of power dynamics that is hosts a collection of electric performances across the board with Kidman doing some of her most bold and mesmerizing work in years. Erotic and a really sharp screenplay makes it an exciting time at the movies.

QUEER is well... queer. In both connotations. Guadagnino experiments and explores, crafting a film with much feeling and achingly captured a man's loneliness. Daniel Craig cracks himself open with a very vulnerable performance. I can't help but feel cold by the end tho.

The best thing Y2K has going for it is Kyle Mooney's distinct directorial voice in the way he's written everything down to the dialogue, its own brand of silliness and characters, but the unbalanced tone would often detract from any sort of impact the film is supposed to have.

FLOW is such a fascinating little film. This year's treat for fans of visual storytelling will have you endeared to the poster child of a cat and stressed out beyond belief. Words aren't needed for this story about how powerful connection and companionship truly is.

I was hoping for Kurzel to adopt the Aussie crime thriller style for THE ORDER, but what I got was an Americanized and most accessible endeavor yet. It's still a pulse pounding thriller with his keen & unflinching violence and another incredible lead performance from Jude Law.

HERETIC isn't about changing your faith, but challenging it. A riveting screenplay that borderlines on being both a Reddit debate and thought-provoking discussion on religion and is a tense psychological horror with two solid leads and a menacing possible career best from Hugh Grant.

BONHOEFFER: PASTOR. SPY. ASSASSIN. feels like a Christian response to the rise of Christian Nationalism and Trump and yet, a missed opportunity for something more complex because of the titular figure and turns out to be something more basic and out of character.

THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER (2024) expands upon an already classic Christmas story (sometimes a little too much so) and surprisingly, moved me quite a bit. Humorous and charming, it's possibly the best directed faith-based film in a while and hosts a delightful cast.

THE PIANO LESSON plays exactly how I expected this adaptation to play out: a hang-out film with scattered supernatural elements to chill you & powerful reminders of how the past affects us. One of this year's best ensembles, but the film cannot escape the material's flaws.

JUROR #2 blew me away. A procedural crime drama turns into a modern day 12 ANGRY MEN halfway through and forces you to reckon with your own morals and examine our justice system. Hoult's guilt-heavy performance should launch him into Oscar talk. My new fav Eastwood.

GLADIATOR II is a definite sequel to the epic BP winner. Just as epic and grand with bloody and brutal fight scenes. It has moments of emotional weight and great performances all around. Mescal is a great leading man, but Washington steals the show. Some of screenplay's muddy tho

NIGHTBITCH is equally weird as it is a riot. It feels like a tribute to motherhood, female rage & overcoming societal expectations. One of Amy Adams' best performances in years with McNairy putting in a solid supportive performance. I would've liked it to be weirder tho.
