I work in a hospital with a very busy ED and ICU, and I wish everyone could see the compassionate, skilled care delivered by hospital staff, paramedics, police officers, and immigration officers. In the midst of tragedy and horror, they continually show up so beautifully.

My dad died in 2009 at the way-too-young age of 67. So, almost 16 years ago. Today, while walking through the hospital, I saw an older couple and I felt a surge of grief and anger- that should’ve been my mom and dad.

Gen X problems: knowing I *could* Skip some Starbucks to me as I’m waiting at the Walk-In Clinic, but I’m too embarrassed because it feels so extra.
