An excerpt from a Maine Morning Star article about Governor Janet Mills voicing opposition to a proposed red flag law that will be a referendum question on Maine's ballots in November. In an op-ed in the Portland Press Herald, Mills cites the 1,100 times that the yellow flag law has been used to remove weapons and protect individuals and the public. “Our law has been preventing suicide, getting people help and saving lives every day,” she wrote. “Question 2 would create a new, separate and confusing process that will undermine the effectiveness of the law and endanger public safety along with it,” she added.

An excerpt from Diana Moskowitz's Defector article about the Trump Regime Part 2's attack on Title 9: It's likely that this Education Department isn't putting forward specifics because those specifics would disprove its entire theorem of existence. It wants us to believe that there is a deluge of trans girls putting all of girls' sports in jeopardy. There are female athletes who have complained very loudly about the inclusion of trans women in women's sports, with a few trans athletes famously singled out; some of the people doing that complaining have built careers in conservative media off the notoriety brought to them via those complaints. But it's important not to confuse one type of volume with another—the ability to shout about something, to use the amplification that culture war allies reliably provide, does not correlate at all with how widespread something is.

They are not criminals. They have no ties to any criminal activity. They are loved in their classrooms. Their family has worked at the nearby "Old McDonald's" petting zoo and dairy farm for 15 years. They lived in a house on the same road as a home ICE had a warrant for. The fact that ICE went door to door is unfathomable. The fact that our students were handcuffed and put into the same van as the alleged criminal from down the street is unconscionable. When I think of my third grader's experience, my stomach twists and it is hard to breathe. We are in shock-and it is that shared shock that has unified our community in the call for our students' release. We are in direct communication with our students. Let me be clear: they are not "being medically evaluated." They are not being "questioned as potential victims." Calling a detention center by another name does not change what it is. We deserve better than spin and misinformation. My teachers and my students are already hurting. Please, think about how long every hour feels for a third grader in a detention center. When it launched, the firm screened for five core issues: abortion, pornography, alcohol, tobacco and casino gambling. It has since added additional screens aimed at the LGBTQ+ community to “preserve innocence [by] filtering out companies engaged in anti-family activity” and exclude “companies actively profiting from and normalizing the vulnerabilities of … sexual impurity, or attempting to redefine God’s Word.” A second screenshotted excerpt from 19th News's article on the Christian-faith investing movement. Via sees parallels between the world of BRI in investing and the broader goals of right-wing Christianity. “The Christian nationalist movement in the U.S. is very much trying to break that separation of church and state in our government and they are trying to influence entertainment and media. And now we’re looking at financial institutions. It is alarming that there is such a concentrated effort in all parts of society from a minority of a minority of Christianity,” she says. Like most conservative Christian movements, the next biggest issue for BRI is abortion. Companies are ruled out of BRI for offering their employees benefits like insurance that covers abortion and abortion-related travel. For Target and Walmart — who have both recently ditched their DEI efforts — even simply selling the morning-after pill landed them a violation.
