More posting here would be nice but @jayinkyiv.bsky.social is doing the Lord's work on YouTube going through Russian media that otherwise slips through without mention.

I bet that Korean number is going to drop soon as they (well, "we" because it's where I live) have turned towards Colombian coal thanks to the FTA with them. (Unless that chart is super new)

Note: Korea is turning away from coal in general but still uses some.

South Korea turns away from Russian coal, boosts imports from Colombia | Caliber.Az
South Korea has begun reducing its imports of Russian thermal coal, turning instead to supplies from Colombia. The shift is driven by lower prices and the absence...

It's pretty similar to Armenia in that respect.

Mongolia is in one of the world's worst places to do that. Russia to the north, China to the south, that's it. Super close to Kazakhstan on the west but not quite! That part still has to go through China before reaching it. (And it's all mountains there anyway)

Putin's whole goal at this point is to get Donbas for free so Russia won't like this either.

I have to admit that the clamping down of posts from inside Russia has made it feel like less is happening on the exploding energy infrastructure side even when I know it's not the case. Thanks for the update!

Stubb is such a good Trump whisperer. He's able to reframe any situation on a dime after Trump has his brain muddled by phone calls with Putin.

I saw the other day that the population of Uzhhorod just across from Slovakia has skyrocketed by some 40,000 since 2022 (from 110,000 or so before) considering its safety, I wonder what extra trade and interactions are happening now in greater volume than before.

Even Canada is finally getting into the game. MANY years too late (I worked at the pipeline company in the 2010s for when LNG Canada was supposed to be built and we never thought it would go this long) but at least it's a reality now.

Interesting, is "maritime security" code for preparing to retake Crimea?
October 16, 2025 at 8:27 AM
Russia itself would do the same thing IMO, it doesn't know what else to do. But the 20-50 apparently available would speed up Russia's reckoning by a notable amount.

Also would excite Trump's base because they like that sort of stuff. So would guarantee bipartisan support for another period.

Heh, this looked like a big duck face until I gave it a closer look. (Entire dove face being the duck's eye and its wing the duck's head)

The funny thing about Trump is that he originally likes Putin but dislikes most of of Russia's allies: China, Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, etc.

So in practice he's ended up damaging Russia peripherally quite a bit. Also gets upset when oil prices rise so OPEC is upping production.

For a similar experience reading Romanian is pretty fun: Romance with a bit of Slavic popping up here and there. e.g. the word război here:

> ... George al VI-lea al Regatului Unit se afla în război cu Germania Nazistă ca suveran al Marii Britanii, dar era neutru ca suveran al Irlandei de Nord?

Yeah, I like to think of Occidental as coming from an alternate history in which a Germanic tribe got completely swamped by Roman influence, then ended up with that structure and vocab and one day decided to really regularize the whole thing so it could compete in a more modern world.
