The U.S. is in imminent danger of losing the National Death Index (NDI), compiled by the staff at the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS).

This would be a tremendous loss for so many reasons. And an unnecessary one, as the NDI Program is 100% self-supported by user fees.

When your power is the product of disinformation, real data become a threat.
In late September the Trump administration abruptly announced that it was ending hunger surveys, after strong-arming Congress into passing a budget that eviscerates spending on food stamps by more than $180 billion — a cut which would put the food benefits of roughly 5 million people at risk.
Did Trump End National Hunger Survey to Hide Growing Hunger Under His Policies?
Over 47 million Americans are already food insecure, and that number is expected to increase thanks to Trump’s budget.

Healthcare costs are skyrocketing in Texas. Health insurance companies in the state are raising premiums by 24% on average. The cause? Trump’s massive cuts to healthcare funding. Congress needs to make healthcare more affordable for hard working families. www.expressnews.com/business/art...
As shoppers watch egg prices, insurers are seeking double-digit premium hikes
Since 1999, health insurance premiums for people with employer-provided coverage have more than quadrupled. Rates probably have risen even more drastically for those with ACA plans.

People have embraced authoritarianism in large part because they've been sold individualistic explanations for social problems. If you think people are poor or unhoused because they've made "bad choices," then you'll see appeal in authoritarian leaders who promise to punish those who are "bad."
