Ward 1 CM Brianne Nadeau just released a statement in response to our reporting: "It's unconscionable that this government could be so cavalier with so much money. And it's certainly no surprise that Bowser darling Buwa Binitie received the latest bailout..."

More misleading/incorrect information from MPD: Smith on Wed. said MPD prepared a statement about the shooting on Oct 18.

They sent it to the Post this week. It says MPD was called to the scene because of the shooting, but does not say MPD officers WERE PATROLLING WITH THE FED WHO FIRED THE SHOTS.

Quite the response from Chief Smith to a Post reporter's question about an officer incorrectly checking the "no" box on a public incident report for shots fired: www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...

Realized I didn't post the public incident report, which omits mention of the shooting. Also note that the officer checked "no" under shots fired:

MPD also provided me with another public incident report, called a "251," that says "HSI member discharged their service pistol at a subject of force at the listed location."

The fact remains that another officer testified in court that he was instructed to withhold that information.

A DHS spokesperson just sent me the below statement. This is the first time I've seen any law enforcement entity provide an explanation for the HSI agent's decision to fire his service weapon—essentially, he feared for his life and fired "defensive shots."

Asked how he would feel about getting a ticket from a cop who was convicted of reckless driving, King basically shrugged it off: "But it’s the same situation if an officer got a DUI or used excessive force. I’m not going to pretend the department is without sin, or I’m without sin."

King told the disciplinary panel of MPD brass that he is known for "not taking a lot of shit on the streets."

This is a fun little game. I'm trying to get the number of calls for police service for a few specific addresses in D.C. @dcpolicedept.bsky.social told me to ask the Office of Unified Communications. OUC told me to ask MPD ...
