Webb’s observations put together near- and mid-infrared light & Hubble’s ones display visible & ultraviolet light.

Oho, an interesting one. MoS is very much just future Earth but let’s see… oh! There’s the “ruler” of Daelara, a despot who had to be removed by the Feds. The despot is only named in a footnote in Fed history books as “Maja Merkatz”.

Inspiration? A big chunk of it was Stargate and Star Trek! Stargate in that it’s “first contact” and Star Trek in tones of what the world is going to tackle!

Kind of a broad question but the best answer I can give is that the crew of Solaris has to live in it. They stake their lives on being able to survive Open Space and reveal the truth of what’s Out There.

Other terrifying things are the space creatures, non sapient alien life that thrives off engine reactor runoff. Sometimes they go after ships for sustenance.
