I spent 4 years reliving The Great Migration, from 1919 to 1969, while #writing my book. My grandparents told me how factory wages pulled folks northward, but never spoke of the widespread bloodshed of The Red Summer that pushed them out of the South.

My grandmother told me stories about how this worked in the 1930s, during the Depression.
Our ancestors remind us: We have done this before. Encourage each other to do it again.
