Former cinema operator & movie guy. Current grocery clerk collecting the bills. History nerd.
Considering who controls the nukes, that deserves a moment's consideration.
Oh, right, hallucinations.
Never mind.

Also notable, the now vanished practice of the indie houses being closed for Xmas Eve. The only day of the year that theatres closed for, a gift to their staffs which provided a time for a community party which were ah, quite memorable. Alas, long since discontinued.

SIFF founders Dan Ireland & Darryl MacDonald were laying the foundation for the SIFF we know today.

The Moore Egyptian was in the midst of a Warner Brothers greatest movies festival, which was a deep well to draw from. Warners provided freshly struck prints, which in those years was as good as we were going to get.

Goodness, don’t overlook ROUND MIDNIGHT (H Exit), SOMETHING WILD (G45), FLOATING WEEDS (GI) or BLACK NARCISSIST (Market)

Nice joke, but will Washington get actual disaster relief from this regime?

Only did that once, and didn’t announce beforehand, but the audience enjoyed the surprise. Also meant going from black & white to color print, which would look better if done digitally. Oh well.

At the University Cinema, the double bill of CASABLANCA & PLAY IT AGAIN SAM gave us the opportunity to switch from reel 4 of CASABLANCA to the opening credits of PIAS as Woody was reacting to the 5th & final reel of that classic right to the end.

BREAKING AWAY (7 Gables) & SOLDIER OF ORANGE (Ridgemont) both deserve a shout out, SITTING DUCKS (Broadway) deserves it’s obscurity.

While I would have preferred a monorail, Seattle is lucky to have the light rail system that is there now.

Amazed they got any traction at all, and one elected? That’s not the town I grew up in. Keep at it, you’re doing better than you know & are closer than you think.

Geoff Murphy’s THE QUIET EARTH (Broadway) is a good take of the Last Person on Earth minigenre, haunting final image.
The late Henry Jaglom’s work was idiosyncratic, critics liked him more the box office did. ALWAYS, Seven Gables.

Hell yes. Nice find.

Cannot explain it, but THE GODS MUST BE CRAZY played for over a year at various Seven Gables theatres. Matched in that feat by the superior DAS BOOT.

The Egyptian has the locally popular Alan Rudolph’s CHOOSE ME, & the Market Theatre showing what would be the final film ever shown there, STOP MAKING SENSE.

A personal fave, COMFORT & JOY, Bill Forsyth’s followup to LOCAL HERO, undeservedly underrated & mostly unseen, at the 7 Gables. Also noteworthy is Ken Russell’s CRIMES OF PASSION at the Varsity. 1/
