46) Mrs England ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
One of the most engaging stories I’ve read in a while, lovely flowing prose and great well fleshed out characters. Will definitely seek out more of her books.

Fri: Drove to work in horrific rain.

Realised my commute was, in reverse, the run that Sara Cox had left to do.
The thought of that run, let alone that run in that rain, let alone that run in that rain after 4 identical days makes me feel sick.

What a woman.

Autumnal food is the best.
This @nigelslater.bsky.social recipe from last Sunday’s column was LUSH. 🤤

45) The Impossible Fortune ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
These characters feel like a warm-hug and sometimes all you need is a bit of a light relief read with some laughs along the way. And an Ibrahim, everyone needs an Ibrahim.

44) The Silence In Between ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½
So readable. Only for fans of interspersed timelines because it does jump between two points in history and two different narrators. I loved the characters and the stories were heartbreaking - even so when you realise that the whole plot is based on true stories.

As mental as you would expect from Lanthimos but by ‘eck it’s brilliant.

Anyone know where they modified June 2025 AQA GCSE papers can be found please? Not even a filter for that series on MyAQA.

No idea why they got rid of All About Maths.

I think AQA are close to putting the nail in their coffin for me.

Such a time drain running their course at the minute.

43) The wedding people ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Cannot remember who recommended this. Not something I would have picked up based on the cover and blurb and turned out to be nothing like I expected but in all the best ways. Hilariously written and utterly readable.

42) When you disappeared ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
After all the DNF disappointments of late it’s nice to go back to a faithful like Marrs. Was such a good holiday book; enough plot twists & turns to leave you guessing but well written and characters you invest in. Only my second of his but I intend to read them all.

41) Razorblade Tears ⭐️/ DNF
Crikey. You know sometimes you read a book and you suspect the author wrote it knowing that they might get a film deal from it? That. On steroids. Over violent, difficult portrayal of female characters, badly written. Another over-hyped one.

40) Culpability ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I liked this which served as a nice easy read for my holiday. Lots of very “current” themes like AI and driverless cars and a family drama that encapsulates all these can bring. Enjoyable.

39) The Age of Diagnosis ⭐️⭐️⭐️½
This is a topic that interests me greatly and this was a good listen on my commutes. I dropped the rating a bit as I don’t think some of her points were fully backed-up with full evidence.

38) ⭐️⭐️/ DNF
I do not get the hype here. Sorry.
No discernible plot, unlikeable half-formed characters. Nah. Tried three times and then it went in the charity box. Someone at work has fleshed out the plot and it’s a shame as it’s part of history I didn’t know about but so badly executed.

37) A particularly nasty case ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ½
Usual hilarity from Kay here in his first fiction offering. I didn’t enjoy it as much as his memoirs but a nice, easy, light-hearted read.
