Behold! This is what I give out for Halloween.

One year, a post-it note appeared on my doorstep the next day. In the scrawl of a third or fourth grader, the note said, “Thank you.”
Two buckets and one basket of king-sized candy sit on a black trick or treat doormat with small pumpkins on either side. In the black bucket on the left are king-sized boxes of Nerds, Sour Patch Kids, Skittles, and Jolly Rancher gummies. In the basket in the middle are full-sized Hershey chocolate bars which I miraculously found for half off and king-sized boxes of M&Ms, Reeses Pieces, and Goobers, the latter of which no one ever wants oh well they’re mine. The second bucket, on the right, has smaller “fun-size” candies, including Snickers and Skittles, as an emergency back-up in case I run out of the bigger candies.

A Salvadoran restaurant on the corner, it has a dark pink facade with white trim. The sign says, “Ercilia’s Restaurant Carry Out.” “Fuck Ice” written in white on the silvery base of a metal bike rack. A row of tchotchkes, including a statue of a black and white border collie, a solitary rooster, a rooster and hen, and a couple of dogs, line the window of a dry cleaners in Mount Pleasant. There’s also a large potted plant with green leaves and red flowers. The front of “Dos Gringos, a Mount Pleasant Cafe.” The top half, with a balcony, is painted in orange with green trim. The metal bars that block off the lower half of the restaurant are painted light yellow. There’s also a mural of an astronaut on one wall.

Some wires got crossed. The police were supposed to clear the bridge for us, but we stepped off at 10:30am sharp and kind of cleared it ourselves.

A police officer got pissy about it and lectured us about violating the rules of our permit.

Guess I’ll start at ‘A’, for Axolotl!

There were at least two feeder marches into DC. Me and my Axolotl friend, along with Chippy and many others, gathered across the river in VA, then crossed Memorial Bridge to enter the city.

A sign posted to a tree that says, “Memorial: A father was taken by ICE on August 28 in the morning here.” The sign says this in Spanish as well. A photo of the front of the Sacred Heart school. The facade is made of light gray stone, with empty planters in front also made of stone and decorated with mosaic tile with a lot of orange and some blue, green, and brown. The logo of the school, also made of mosaic tile, is on the front of the building. It features an outer circle of sea blue and an inner circle of lighter blue, with a golden tree with green leaves growing out of a red heart.

Meet Alaska Palestine Antietam Ulysses S. Grant. (it’s a long story)

These were taken by my friend, an experienced neonate kitten foster, who is now caring for the kitten after I transported it to her.
A sickly little kitten, about 4 weeks old, in an incubator. The kitten is mostly white with patches of brown tabby. A sickly little kitten demanding food and singing the song of his people. The kitten is mostly white with patches of brown tabby. He’s getting the best care possible with an experienced neonate kitten foster.

A heavy, vaguely medieval looking wooden double door. The handles to pull the door open are a pair of metal hands, one palm up, one palm down. Yeah, I don’t know about this.

Walked around the H St Corridor and side streets from 3rd St to 8th St around 4pm.

Didn’t spot a single National Guard (nor ICE or related feds). Did see some cool signs, posters, and decor.
A Free DC sign nestled amongst some fake tombstones and cobwebs in front of a rowhouse. A couple posters on a light pole that feature a masked ICE thug. The posters say, “Why Are You Hiding Your Face? Public Servants Should Face the Public.” A Free DC sticker on the bottom of a light pole. A funky light yellow rowhouse featuring a giraffe, a pink flamingo, and a pink umbrella with fringe.

I remain interested in the dwindling National Guard presence here in DC, while well aware that ICE/feds are still terrorizing residents.

So far today, saw three NG on the platform at Gallery Place metro.

Did a thorough search of Union Station and only spotted one NG. I assume they have a partner.
A single, solitary National Guard talks to the driver of a white shuttle bus outside Union Station. It’s sunny and the blue sky is clear. Sunlight filters in and illuminates the glorious arched ceiling at Union Station. Rows of octagons run along the arched ceiling, a gold circle in the center of each one. A row of stone statues, their backs turned to the camera, overlook the main concourse. A couple of police (I think Amtrak police), standard for Union Station, and one police dog who looks to be an older lab mix. They’re still a good dog, despite working for the police. The southwest corner of Union Station, where the escalators go down to the Metro. Lots of stone arches are visible, but not a single National Guard.

I usually just want the National Guard gone, but I was glad these two could see this side of DC. (Friday, August 29 - Washington, DC)
