ahhhh. yeah, my distro uses a much newer driver so Wayland worked pretty much out of the box. I assume there's a nightly version of Debian that has newer drivers?

if you're running an older card (anything pre-20 series, I think?) I don't think the proprietary drivers still support your card. But also Debian packages are, to my understanding, slower to update and so if you're running a 50 series card it's likely going to have issues by being too new.
