BREAKING: The motion at the Town Council of Addison to call an election to withdraw from DART FAILS to pass, 3 in favor and 4 against. Thank you to the public speakers from Addison and the broader region for standing up for transit, and thank you to the Council for listening!

Parking reform just passed Dallas City Council! That sound you hear is… absolutely nothing happening, as the city isn’t going to just change overnight. But man, I can’t wait to see how downtown and ToDs pop off over the next few years!

The first hearing for HB3187, a bill looking to change how Dallas Area Rapid Transit is funded, has just wrapped up around 1:00 AM. There were hours of testimony from mayors, city council members, DART staff, and residents, and yes, there was a duck.
Someone brought a toy duck into the Texas House Committee on Transportation and it has been sitting on camera while members lay out bills and the public testify all evening.

Last night the Texas House Transportation Committee held a hearing on House Bill 3187, which could change the way DART is funded and potentially take millions from the agency. Of the 32 speakers, 28 were opposed while 4 were in favor of the bill. Here are some clips from that hearing:

@wfaa DART has made many efforts to engage with their member cities. It’s obvious Plano has an agenda because they know a pull out election from DART would fail. Let’s have WFAA hear from the actual riders of DART!
@wfaach8.bsky.social The riders are ready for their 5 minute interview regarding the DART legislation HB 3187. Representative Shaheen vastly understated the impacts of his legislation. Contact us at info@ridewithdata.org and we can set something up.

any city and elected worth a damn should be ignoring their NIMBY backlash and supporting aggressive investment and upzoning to both allow and attract a greater portion of refional growth into their city.
The property assessment cap is on existing appraisals. Any new development gets reappraised. Ergo organic growth is a bypass for cities on the revenue cap. There is no bypass for sales tax capping and if our population grows faster than 3.8% service per capita must invariably decline.

I'm on a train that takes 3.5 hours to get to my destination when it could easily take under 2 hours with high-speed rail. Call me crazy, but I think we should get faster trains...

The Subway is plenty safe. Much safer than driving. But pulling funding will certainly not make it safer.
Duffy on the New York City subway: "It's dangerous. It's dirty ... they don't want you to drive your car. They want you to take a train. If you want me to take a train, make the train safe, make it clean. But if you won't do that, we're gonna pull money."

For the life of me, I don’t own understand how a completely apolitical CEO of the nation’s rail operator would be removed...
"I am stepping down as CEO to ensure that Amtrak continues to enjoy the full faith and confidence of this administration."

I read this line as pretty explicitly stating that Elon Musk's musings about privatization (a big here-we-go-again) were not exactly happening in a vacuum.

My first post! It’s about parking minimums in Dallas. My friend Hexel has put together this excellent video how outdated parking minimums are putting small entrepreneurs out of business! Watch here: youtu.be/SnEZeuy1w4k?...
