I was today year’s old when I learned Robert Heinlein invented the word “grok.” I first encountered it when I read The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test as a teen and assumed it was a hippie/beatnik word and never thought about its origins again. It’s a great word! Love that I know more about it!

We got up early to finish watching Andor and now I’m crying and that’s some fantastic TV and Star Wars

Every book published in the United States is sent to the Library of Congress. Also, if you are under 16 you cannot use the reading room or order books.
Reporter: The president fired the Librarian of Congress. Why?

Leavitt: There were quite concerning things she had done at the Library of Congress in the pursuit of DEI and putting inappropriate books in the library for children.

Husband and I sharing a room with our sleeping baby at in-laws. Quietly sending each other memes back and forth in bed because we want kiddo to keep sleeping a little longer and we aren’t ready to get out of bed.

Thinking about the time I was staying with my grandparents in Provo, Utah. My grandma - a BYU grad and True Blue Mormon - paused to look out her window that had a view of BYU campus, noted the smokestack, and quietly said, “A new pope has not been chosen” and it continues to crack me up to this day

I’m so annoyed by “everything is communism” being the boogeyman. Some things are just your fault, your mistakes, your misguided attempts. You can’t blame everything on a concept you barely understand

Got in a workout at the city employee gym. First time since giving birth. A coworker was there. “I only ever see firefighters and librarians here!” Well that’s a romance novel waiting to happen

I gotta say, the Huckleberry app has been invaluable for two older Millennials taking care of a baby. Absolutely worth the subscription

Joys of motherhood: having to interrupt my sleep to either tend the baby or pump. Currently icing a clogged milk duct. Treating my dry flaky skin due to hormone fluctuations. I truly love my kid with a fierceness but I never want to do this again.

A local union set up a town hall at my library “with or without” our congressional rep. Over 400 people have shown up, exceeding the limits of our meeting space, and it’s moved outside as a result.

Glad to know our government is focusing on the important issues named in a middle school presidential campaign speech.
My colleague Adam Goldman, who abandoned Twitter/X but has not to date joined Bluesky, has posted on LinkedIn this memo from Attorney General Pam Bondi personally barring DOJ buildings from procuring paper straws www.linkedin.com/posts/activi...

I have worked at 4 public library systems and there are many constants. One of them is we never buy new door stoppers despite the ones we have not really being functional anymore

I had no particular interest in watching White Lotus until Jason Isaacs and Parker Posey showed up in my algorithm talking about their particular North Carolina accents. Now I want to watch it for that!

It’s the “possibly AI-generated” that’s giving me life
Video screens throughout the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s headquarters were taken over by possibly AI-generated images purporting to show President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, with the text “Long live the real king.” wapo.st/41flayF
