If our Christianity causes us to get more angry at the idea of a poor person possibly “abusing the system” than we do about the most powerful and wealthy people in our country creating a system that crushes the poor and makes it impossible to get by, we need a grand reversal.

Peter, James, and John, fishermen, were looked at in this same way in ancient Roman-controlled Palestine (Judea/Judah, Samaria, Galilee) by the powers that be. Jesus emboldened them. Empowered them. Gave them dignity. We are to do the same.
