My 2c would be to try Elementary if you're completely new to Linux. That's Ubuntu-based and pretty much as user friendly as it gets. I'm on OpenSuse Tumbleweed with kde plasma now, and i must say i like it a lot.

True. At home, I've been on/off Linux since 2004. Just recently wanted to try out Nextcloud on OpenSuse as a possible self-hosted google docs replacement. Since I'm not all that fluent with apache2 or MariaDB extensions, figuring stuff out has been somewhat fun, but at the same time, really painful.
