Chattel slavery and prison slavery are both slavery despite their differences, and it's hideously cruel to suggest that an enslaved person isn't actually enslaved because you confused the difference. Please stop, now, it's grotesque what you're doing.

It is deeply offensive to say that someone explicitly held in slavery, who has to do slave labor, is not a slave because they do not have it as bad as chattel slaves, to whom I never once compared them.

Americans have gotten great material benefit from harming others, both around the world (the global south is gutted for US opulence) and domestically (where a racialized proletariat does back breaking work for the benefit of a mostly white settler class).

That is, before Trump, the US still had a half dozen colonial occupations, still had 2 million prison slaves, was still supplying 70% of Israeli arms and total diplomatic cover in the UN for the genocide, was still responsible for the destruction of Haiti, and on and on. Why only now boycott?

I'm using absolutely zero hyperbole. The explicit text of the thirteenth amendment says that slavery of imprisoned people is legal. There are about 2 million people in the US who meet that criteria and their slave labor is used all the time in every state.

Don't get me wrong I'm all for supporting this boycott! At the same time, I also want to understand why it seems like a lot of people consider 1 labor camp more objectionable than prison slavery, 6 different colonial occupations, supporting a genocide, starving millions, or what the US does to Haiti

I mean this genuinely bc I really do want to understand this apparent dissonance: what about Trump and this camp make this a boycott you want to engage in that wasn't satisfied with the total support for Israel's campaign of extermination in Gaza or the starvation of nearly 2 million Afghanis?
