I didn't stop using search engines completely, but I make so much more of an effort to include people in my random trains of thought now, and that's really only been a positive. We need reasons to converse. We need to appreciate one another.

Do it because it's more enjoyable! Do it because it improves your connections! Do it because these are SKILLS that we need to SUPPORT EACH OTHER in MAINTAINING.

Ask people how they would cook something! Ask people who that one guy in that one movie was, you know the one! Ask people how they would wash something, or find something, or if they remember the name of that place with the stuff! Or, god forbid, how to *get somewhere.*

I'm so sorry; my taste in the Beatles is neither educated nor deep. I like Ob-La-Di and Octopus's Garden and anything they sang on Ed Sullivan.

We know our work is undervalued in the marketplace. That feels bad. When our work is undervalued *by readers*, that feels even worse. When our work is directly undervalued in the marketplace because of a widespread piracy culture that directly affects sales numbers, that turns into wrath very fast.

Book piracy is such a depressing thing. I would make way more from royalties (enough, perhaps, to justify *continuing to write for publication*) if people just did not steal my work.

If you want a free copy, you can do one of two things that are absolutely fine with me.

1) Email or message me. I will send you the file.
2) Get it from a friend. It's a DRM-free file. People lend each other books all the time.

Anyway, do not help the Sam Altmans of the world steal Machine Learning valor to prop up a bunch of gross plagiarism machines that have all our worst biases and failings baked in.
