You hit the nail on the head-- kind of. Ask any member and they'll tell you it's totally not a cult at all, ask anyone else and they'll tell you it's*pretty close* to a cult without fully being one, *technically*

Lol there really isn't any underlying principle. In more recent years they've said the restrictions are to make "God's chosen people" into a "Strange and Peculiar People"
Which is very clearly a manipulation tactic the church uses to make its members think they're "special" rather than "weird"

As an exmormon, lemme clarify. Coke is fine, it's just that a handful of members don't drink any caffeine at all (usually to score cultural brownie points)
And it's been clarified the "hot drinks" line at the time it was written basically just meant coffee and tea. Any other hot drink is okay
