Mark Antony’s denarii series celebrated 23 legions, each coin bearing the number of a specific legion, like LEG XII on this denarius. The legionary denarii were minted by Mark Antony around 32-31 BCE in order to finance and legitimize his military campaigns during the civil war against Octavian.

The Legionary Eagle, or Aquila (Latin "eagle"), was a specific type of Roman military standard. It was the most important standard in a Roman legion, typically a representation of a golden eagle with outstreched wings mounted on a pole. Septimius Severus, aureus, Legion XIIII Gemina.#ancientcoins
