As end-of-empire scenarios go it is so much more dignified to get your capital city sacked by the Visigoths than to have a bunch of illiterate rich people in their 70s doing it through a series of incomprehensible tantrums because their brains were defeated by their phones.

“At 3C of global heating, climate damage cannot be insured against, covered by governments, or adapted to. That means no more mortgages or new real estate devt, no long-term investment, no financial stability. The financial sector as we know it ceases to function and capitalism ceases to be viable.”

The "democrats lack a leader/direction" narrative drives me a bit batty. When you can only count to 2, and one of the 2 is already a bugnut cult, the remainder are by definition going to be an ideologically incoherent aggregate.

I hope this exercise in making libertarian fantasies real will finally teach us that the only healthy capitalism is frosting on a solid socialist cake. We could learn a lot from Denmark and Singapore in this regard

Working ridiculous hours is being promoted as good yet again, so here's a reminder that working 55 or more hours a week will eventually kill you.

Not excited about the "election was rigged" narratives. This is clearly not the case, and also repurposed from propaganda used to polarize the right. Decreasing confidence in elections is the point.

hey, can one of the reasonable centrist writers condescendingly explain to me again that it is overblown to call these people segregationists?
Interesting. New contracting memorandum from Secy of Defense says military contracts shld stop including language that bars contractors from running segregated facilities.

When it comes to mandates, it's good to remember that no candidate has ever received even 25% of the total US population's votes.

I get the sentiment, but a MacBook Air m3 consumes about 5.1 watts while a 386 with CRT used 30-50 watts
I think modern computer software was a mistake and we should go back to our roots of developing for limited hardware.

The same amount of electricity that could power MS-DOS for a year is now used to ask Copilot how to save a Word document to your local Desktop instead of OneDrive.

Yes, the current administration won a plurality of votes - 1.53% more than their opponent. This doesn't represent a majority of those who voted, much less the voting-age population.

Talking like it does is a fundamental distortion of the ground truth.

The gender executive order is even more out of touch with reality than that time Indiana tried to legislate 𝝿 to be 3.2.

Every foetus is female "at conception", and there are genetic variants (like androgen-insensitive XY people) that appear to be entirely women despite having internal testes.
