It’s like Watergate, only in this version Nixon directly mails the tapes to Woodward and Bernstein

Heads up, my fellow Illinoisans! Write to your state rep and ask then to support this bill!
Illinois has proposed a bill that would require anyone seeking the role of public library trustee be a valid cardholder of the library they wish to serve.

This is a positive bill, and it's one in a line of pro-library bills being drafted and championed in the state.

Illinois Proposes Candidates for Library Board Have Library Cards
In a country where there are far more anti-library, pro-book banning bills launching than bills intended to protect them, Illinois continues to be a leader...

Call it a purge, not a buyout. Call it a coup against Congress, not a spending pause. Call it censorship, not a review. Words matter, and we in the media have a chance to do better this time.

Both of my fifth grade classes picked Home in a Lunchbox as their #mockcaldecott pick. Looking forward to seeing if we’re right on Monday. I’m wondering if The Yellow Bus or My Daddy is a Cowboy are also contenders.

There's something needs to be said
And it's important
You don't need to be gay to stick up for your gay friends
You don't need to be trans to stick up for your trans friends
You don't need to be Jewish or muslim or Hindu or black or white
You only need to be good people
To stick up for your friends

The world is scary right now for so many reasons. I find myself doing whatever I can to calm my fears. I knit. I read. I bake. But I’m also not going to just give in and give up.

I say we flood the zone here on Monday with good shit. Songs we love. Clips of great films. Pictures of pets. Favorite stand up bits. GIFs of Richard Kind laughing. Anything at all but, you know, the thing. Spare yourself. The ironic, dark laughs ain't fucking worth it.

Hey crocheters…my daughter asked for Tunisian crochet hooks for Christmas, and I have no idea which ones to buy. I’m a knitter, and I know nothing about crochet except how to make a chain stitch. #crochet

Countdown to Christmas Day 1. I’ve been collecting gnomes way longer than the current trend, so I was thrilled to be gifted this fun countdown box. #gnomes #christmasgnome #adventcalendar

I have decided that I want to learn some basic ASL signs in the new year. Yesterday at the grocery store, my cashier was deaf, and while I was able to sign “thank you”, it made me realize that a bit more effort on my part could go a long way.

Headed into my 30th fall parent/teacher conferences. One would think that this would be no big deal; after all I've done this so many times already. But every year, I get nervous beforehand. I'm always worried that I haven't prepared enough, even though I have.

There's so much to love about my grade change from 3rd to 5th, but man... I am tired. I have 2 sections, each for half the day, and once the 8:30 bell rings, I am pretty much non-stop. It's all good work, and I'm hoping I'll find my feet soon. #teacherlife

Every elementary school classroom should have a sink. I didn't realize how much I used the one in my old classroom until I didn't have one any more.

Today my district's superintendent sent out an email reminding the staff about our bomb threat procedures. This is not okay, people. I would really love to do my job without worrying about intruders or bombs. #publicschoolteacher
