2 days of 0 digital life, 0 talk, 0 listening to anything, other than the natural world & basic human intrusions that couldn’t be entirely excluded (eg dirty dishes and utensils being placed in trays after silent meals), did wonders for me. Luckily I learned from deeply thoughtful & crazy smart scholars of public policy, urban politics, & political theory. They invested in me what they could. I promised myself (and my wife) that I would never waste an opportunity to see if I could make it as a scholar. And here I am. GO GREAT DANES!

Count my furloughed family & friends among em. NONE of them are pleased. Just when they thought the USA was being forced to see/get the bigger political picture, esp in light of the election results, after massive No Kings turnout, this is how it ends (in the short run)!? Milk-livered ninnyhammers.

I was Voter #204 at my polling station at 9:30am this morning. Only elections on my ballot were the Public Service Commission races. I voted for sanity in policymaking, public regard for science, investment in sound and alternatives, and fairness in rate-setting.

Email from Son's school re: SNAP. Awful. Some of Son's buddies likely receive SNAP. Direct reminder for our family that children under 18 are ~ 40% of SNAP beneficiaries. Helping feed them (and their guardians) is a real and true "pro-life" move for America. Yet here we are because of #GOPshutdown.
