I don’t tend to enjoy making scarves much, but here’s one I did out of spite that ended up being a really lovely gift for a friend. One of the first things I designed entirely myself, it’s fairly simple but the striped yarn kept my brain just interested enough to finish.

Making a scrap quilt and playing with triangles for the first time. The rest of my seams so far are pretty rough but LOOK AT THIS PERFECT CONVERGENCE POINT AAAAAAAHHH

Finished a scarf for my sister and added it to a display advertising the employee crafting group at work. Hoping to start a knitting club for students this year as well 🧶

Spent the weekend designing, patterning, and stumbling through practicing my own citrus quilt block from scratch. First attempt was pretty slapdash but I took my time with the second one and I’d say that’s a recognizable lime. Only 98 more to go and I’ll have myself a quilt.

Finally finished my second quilt! It’s tough to get a nice picture of something this size, but I’m super proud of how it came out. Top is my own wave design, back is a disappearing nine patch in duck cloth at my beloved’s insistence. Vast skill improvement already!

Truly obsessed with how this yarn my sister spun worked up into a cute little pumpkin! Pattern is by Nimble Needles.

Finished my first ever quilt just in time to use it as a photo backdrop for lavender graduation! I definitely learned as I want so don’t look too closely, but it’s a great blanket and it makes me happy.

Locked in for 9 hours today and got half of my first quilt top assembled. Absolutely humbled by math throughout this process but I’m not giving up.

Remember that yarn my sister spun for me? Looks like I figured out what to do with it. No pattern, just worked off a photo and experimented. I’m obsessed with the subtle color bands in the yarn- it worked up more beautifully than I could have imagined.

I was going to stop with the book posts because I found them boring, but HOLY SMOKES I need to yell about this book! Absolutely brutal, richly researched, and devastatingly timely. I love media that hurts me.

Definitely didn’t just work out the rough measurements during a Zoom meeting at work… 👀

Alright knitters, I need some help. My sister is a spinner and has sent me these two ENORMOUS skeins of handmade yarn to play with. What do you think I should knit with 445yd of worsted muted pink “unicorn farts”, or 515yd of bulky autumnal variegated “hot mess”?

Playing a dangerous game of yarn chicken with this glove for a friend. Maybe they’ll just have one thumb poking out so they can use their phone…

🌎📚💙 Book 25 of the year is Modern Poetry of Pakistan, an anthology of translated works from several of Pakistan’s languages. While I didn’t connect with the style as much as I do with my old favorites, I did feel a kinship with the authors as America faces struggles.

💙📚 Book 24 in 2025 was Taproot, a collection of poetry by Kathy Mangan. It was less nature focused than I had hoped based on the title. On the one hand it didn’t blow me away, on the other it was a nice experience of an older woman’s reminiscence on life.

💙📚 Book 23 in 2025 was The God of the Woods by Liz Moore. I’m not normally one for thrillers, but this is based in upstate NY and I adore the Adirondacks. A little formulaic but with a nice twist at the end. Great character development all around

In honor of a good friend and new parent, book 22 for this year is Go To Sleep (I Miss You) by Lucy Knisley. It’s a cute collection of comics reflecting on the first few months of parenthood and all the blowouts along the way.

💙📚 Book 21 of the year is a tidy little LitFic novel called The Hearing Test, in which a sound designer for short films suddenly begins to go deaf. Extremely introspective, it’s as much poetry on the page as it is plot driven, which I always love.

Finally took pictures of the entrelac shawl I finished this week! I added trim and a button to secure it in the back and I’m obsessed. So far I’ve had five different people try to buy it off me- too bad it took nearly 60 hours and is deeply impractical to sell.

Oh look, another comic! Book 20 for this year was This is how I Disappear by Marion Malle. This graphic novel shows a young writer’s long term struggle with depression after sexual assault. While the circumstances are different, it reminds me so much of college.

Tried to get a picture of my current #WIP for #showmeyourknits this week, but Martin decided it was time for me to knit in hard mode. Hopefully the trim on this shawl will be done soon anyway

🌎📚💙Number 19 is in the books! You Brought Me the Ocean is a queer coming of age story set against the backdrop of DC comics. Excellent representation in this one, and beautiful illustration. The ending felt unfinished, but that’s a testament to the messiness of adolescence.
