Alewife in the #GreatLakes are sensitive to seiche-driven upwelling events, forcing large schools to go tight to shore. Implications for potential fish entrainment at cooling-water intake facilities. Results from a fish diversion system monitoring study using #acoustics. 🐟

An example of upstream migrating Whitefish in a #GreatLakes tributary recorded using a #DIDSON multibeam imaging #sonar. The video provides a demo of our semi-automated processing method using Echoview software. We also support ARIS and FlexView sonar data. Methods paper; doi.org/10.1016/j.fi...

Imaging #sonar systems such as #ARIS are ideal for observing fish behaviour and for assessing spawning sites. Shown are spawning fish within a #GreatLakes coastal wetland. We use Echoview software to automate background removal, target detection, and counting. Methods paper; doi.org/10.1002/nafm...

Just for fun, here is the echogram video for Lake Trout Tag ID 4 from Fig 6 panel b. Note the Cisco school displaying "Fountain Effect" upon Lake Trout attack from below. Super windy day so hope video doesn't make you feel too sea-sick!

#ThrowbackThursday; this one from 2007. Tracking tagged (and untagged) Lake Trout using multibeam #sonar and 200 kHz #acoustic tags. 3D model from "Tag01" in TAFS paper by @airydunlop.bsky.social , @harknesslab.bsky.social , @echoview.bsky.social , et al. doi.org/10.1577/T08-...

Nov. gales can lift and move mats of decaying benthic #Cladophora in Lk Ontario. These algae events are a major safety concern at industrial cooling-water intake facilities where there is a risk of fouling. We are using multibeam #sonar to assess the effectiveness of Bubble Curtains as a deterrent.

DYK the fish can hear you coming? We tested the effect of outboard engine noise on the distn of fish targets within the #acoustic beam of a split-beam echosounder. Small-boat #hydroacoustic surveys of @iisd.bsky.social ELA LK224 were run with either a gas or electric motor. youtu.be/8Y_Ioc_8Fys

Ever wonder what your tagged fish are up to between receiver fixes? See them in real-time! Who are they hangin' with? What are they snackin' on? 3D activity? See the big picture using integrated #sonar and acoustic biotelemetry methods. For more information www.milnetechnologies.ca/sonartags.htm.

Imaging multibeam #sonar systems, such as #ARIS or #Flexview, are ideal for detecting and identifying species-at-risk in riverine and shallow water systems. Shown is a #Sturgeon detection from a fish passage survey of the Fraser R. Automated target detection using Echoview. #Hydroacoustics

Wanna detect tagged fish, see untagged fish and map bottom habitat at the same time? You can! Ideal tool for identifying & mapping spawning areas or to assess #Sturgeon in large rivers. Learn more about our multibeam mapping & fish tag detection sonar system. www.milnetechnologies.ca/sonartags.htm

I had a chance to test out the new Kongsberg Discovery M3-HF multibeam imaging #sonar in a local river. The results look impressive. So many frequencies to choose from! Should be a good all-in-one tool for hi-res #bathymetry mapping, bottom substrate mosaics and fish detection.

Want your fish to show you where they like to hang out? What nearshore habitats they prefer? Where they prefer to aggregate when spawning or feeding? Well, now you can, using our new multibeam mapping and fish tag detection sonar! See tagged and untagged fish together! Ideal for #Sturgeon too.

#Eel are an endangered spc in Canada too. Safe downstream passage through hydro dams is critical for survival. Our sonar fish tag detection tech monitors Eel bypass efficiency at hydro facilities. #Sonar detects and decodes tags >100 m with 120o field-of-view. #hydroacoustics #tracking

Nice to see you all again! Happy to replace my tweets with skeets?..bleets? idk...🤷‍♂️
I’m Scott Milne and I bleet about #hydroacoustics, sonar imaging, acoustic biotelemetry, and fish habitat mapping. I hope you enjoy this #ARIS multibeam echogram of a baitfish school being attacked by Rainbow Trout.
