So cool. Like flying over Everest! Btw the 333 is very pretty.

All that bottom tracking must be helpful for keeping you awake! Good luck with the rest of the surveys.

Measuring travel time and knowing the speed of sound in water, the echosounder provides depth measurements along swaths, which we combine to create bathymetric maps, revealing underwater landscapes, submarine volcanoes, and ridges.

This is why we turned on our multibeam sonar, which measures bathymetry at high resolution (~50 m/pixel) along the track of the ship, revealing spectacular highs and lows as we crossed the Southwest Indian Ridge a couple days ago.

Although it was a lot of work to push them into place, I think the trout are quite happy with their new benthic alpha-habitat structures. Unless you think we need funding to replace it with a much trendier font? Maybe a nice Romie or Garamond serif?

Would be fun to try. Altho we developed tags that can be activated, detected and decoded by sonar, the ⬇️ body size, ⬆️ predation pressure, and ⬆️ mortality of Alewife would make reliable detection challenging. But @glatos-fish.bsky.social have trkd Cisco, Mooneye, and Bloater. doi.org/10.1139/cjfa...
Integrating hydroacoustic and telemetric surveys to estimate fish abundance: a new approach to an old problem
Population abundance is a critical metric in fisheries and conservation, but it is very difficult to measure accurately. Existing estimation methods present significant challenges: mark–recapture meth...

In addition, new methods of reading data from sonar logs (recordings) result in up to a 1.3𝐱 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐩!
Head over to GitHub to try it out! Happy ping-ing!
