I had a similar experience with a downright sexist professor who was such a terrible teacher that they wouldnt let him teach undergrad courses anymore. So, us grad students got stuck with him. Apparently he was a great researcher so I'm not sure if the dept would get rid of him even if they could.

Sounds to me like "I use a gas-powered chainsaw to slice my bread"
