Theda Skocpol said it months ago: Americans when they see what mass deportation really looks like will be repulsed. Mark Twain could have told you 100 years ago. Americans say one thing and then act another way

Yeah if you don’t like it vote for Dems. If you don’t you’re responsible. They literally held signs at the convention stating “mass deportation now”

Let’s call this what it is: Pogroms. Against Americans. By our government. We know where this leads. We’ve seen it before

I thought that was Larry Summers?

And right now R’s are still in thrall to our President. So, she is likely in great peril politically. I think the best read of her behavior is that Trump/MAGA complex is so unsustainable-even the most loyal cannot stomach it and perhaps unwisely risk their political careers as a result

And while we’re at it we should abolish the debt ceiling.

The filibuster should not be used to hold our government hostage.

Trump is a cancer no doubt. Starving the patient doesn’t work tho

Thank you Senator Peters!! You are doing the right thing in my view

Thank goodness for Tim Kaine! A truly selfless man and someone who cares so deeply for others. Thank you Senator Kaine for not prolonging this pain any more. I know some will say you betrayed them. But I for one think you are showing leadership and heart

At a certain point continuing the fight becomes too painful. It’s okay to try and fail. At least they tried. How long is too long? Two months three months one year? Again there does come a point where a responsible person who cares does cave.

1. Ds tried on health care. Rs made it worse-stripping jobs, food stamps, grants. Showed that R’s just didn’t care enough on health care and the pain of the shutdown was extreme.
2. When Dems are viewed as fighting for the American people - even when it’s painful and messy- people respond well
November 10, 2025 at 1:50 AM
Ultimately I really wish this country worked to do what is in the best interest of the people. And a shut down ain’t that. But the alternative on 9/29 also sucked. Dems couldn’t have just folded at that time. I know it seems like this was all for nothing but there are some things that came out
November 10, 2025 at 1:45 AM
I thought Schumer was right the first time around to keep the govt open.

But people want a fight

So they got one.

Rs were never gonna cave on health care and if the shoe were on the other foot Dems would be appalled at unrelated demands to keep the govt open

ICE has 75 billion. A rich target. This kind of suit will multiply.

Huckleberry Finn: “So the king sneaked into the wigwam and took to his bottle for comfort, and before long the duke tackled his bottle; and so in about a half an hour they was as thick as thieves again, and the tighter they got, the lovinger they got, and went off a-snoring in each other’s arms.”

Notice how he keeps his chin up? That’s something actors are taught when trying to look assertive.

It’s not about being Jewish. It’s about preserving Israel as a safe haven for Jews. I don’t feel safe in the long run when Mamdani thinks it’s fine to abandon that dream and inspires others to believe the same

Any MOC can ask GAO to issue an opinion on the budgetary/appropriations legality of this loan of research user fees. Would love to read that. Really!
