Flora sets about tidying their chaotic lives & steering everyone toward happier & more sensible futures. It’s a satire of the rural melodramas popular in the 1920s and ’30s. Mum didn’t expect to like it but it was witty & made her laugh at times! #CatChatBookClub
November 23, 2025 at 9:04 PM
Off theme, this month, mum read “Cold Comfort Farm” by Stella Gibbons, the choice of our village book club, which follows orphaned Flora Poste, who goes to live with her eccentric relatives, the Starkadders, on a gloomy Sussex farm #CatChatBookClub

For Non-Fiction November #CatChatBookClub choice, Mum read “One Garden Against the World” by the wonderful @katebradbury.bsky.social
It puts into words everything that mum feels passionately in her heart about the natural world 💚 Hedgehogs feature prominently! We urge EVERYONE to read it

If you really don’t enjoy reading non-fiction books, maybe you can choose a novel inspired by real-life events? 😸📚 #catchatbookclub

But whatever you decide, we hope you’ll join us at our tweetup: Sunday 23 November 8pm UK time. ALL WELCOME ❤️

📣 1 of 2: Looking ahead to next month’s #CatChatBookClub, we’ll embrace our traditional “Non-Fiction-November” theme (not compulsory of course). I hope you’re happier about it than I look in the pic 😹 Biographies, true crime, history books, cookery books, craft/hobbies books…
October 26, 2025 at 10:56 PM
A third book which mum read & which fits the #CatChatBookClub theme is “The Hike” by Lucy Clarke. As a group of female friends go on a hiking trip in challenging terrain, tension and foreboding are in abundance! 🙀 A fast paced thriller altho not ‘outstanding’ in mum’s view.
October 26, 2025 at 8:57 PM
We did! We enjoyed it too but lots of the detail from the book was missing eg all Joyce’s funny comments about instagram 😹 #Catchatbookclub
October 26, 2025 at 8:43 PM
As well as the “Fright”📕 mum also embraced the “Delight” aspect of our October #CatChatBookClub theme. Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club series has brought her lots of joy over recent years so she was keen to read the latest installment! It did not disappoint! Mum LOVED it 😁
October 26, 2025 at 8:30 PM
The first book mum chose, for our October #CatChatBookClub theme, was The Small Hand by Susan Hill. Our dear friends @lisaclayton.bsky.social introduced us to this author a few years ago, so she’s our ‘go-to’ now for spooky stories that don’t completely traumatise us!🙀😹👻
We loved it!

📣 For October #CatChatBookClub we are embracing the spooky season for our reading theme!
We know not everyone enjoys scary books, so we give you a choice: “FRIGHTS OR DELIGHTS" - creepy thrills vs. heartwarming fun!
Book-chat will be on Sunday 26 October at 8pm UK time 😸 🎃 👻

📣 (2 of 2) Any links (however tenuous) to the theme are encouraged 😹 Your favourite book might be a childhood favourite or a recent favourite or a book you want to revisit. If you don’t want to re-read your favourite, why not read another book linked to it? #CatChatBookClub

📣 Looking ahead to August 2025 #CatChatBookClub & our tweetup will be on 31 Aug (fifth Sunday) so we don’t clash with #Nipfest2025 😹 We have a pawsome member-suggestion for our theme “My Favourite Book of All-Time” 😸❤️ 📚

For comparison, we also watched the film of “Chocolat” 🎥 which is based on the book #CatChatBookClub
Mum did enjoy the film; v pleasant viewing but although many elements of the written story were included, they were significantly altered & in different order 🙀 (2 of 3…cont)
July 27, 2025 at 7:53 PM
For the #CatChatBookClub “Books which became MOVIES” theme, Mum chose to read “Chocolat” by Joanne Harris, which she enjoyed just as much as a bar of 🍫 itself! 😹 The story was lovely & moving, the characters super. Magical. Good messages to take away from it. (1 of 3…. cont)

Mum isn’t usually a ‘Summer Escapes’ kind of reader 😹 but with “Love Forms” by Claire Adam, we travelled between London & Trinidad & Tobago. Mum adored this book. It’s definitely not a light beach read but it’s contemplative & moving & highly recommended #CatChatBookClub
