Sorry I missed #CatChatBookClub earlier today. This month I’ve been binging Georgette Heyer, reading her mysteries in order of publication:

Footsteps in the Dark (1932)
Why Shoot a Butler? (1933)
The Unfinished Clue (1934)
Death in the Stocks (1935)
Behold, Here’s Poison (1936)

Oohh, there’s a #CatChatBookClub?!? So exciting!!

For non-fiction, hooman read ‘On Tyranny’ by Timothy Snyder. Plus ‘1984’ by George Orwell and ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ by Margaret Atwood, which are supposed to be fiction but seem all to real at the moment.

#catchatbookclub blind date with a book. Not sure if I’m ready for this type of book, but it’s ok so far. It’s been a busy month. We will see if I finish it before it’s due back to the library. It won’t bother me either way.

Off theme, this month, mum read “Cold Comfort Farm” by Stella Gibbons, the choice of our village book club, which follows orphaned Flora Poste, who goes to live with her eccentric relatives, the Starkadders, on a gloomy Sussex farm #CatChatBookClub

For Non-Fiction November #CatChatBookClub choice, Mum read “One Garden Against the World” by the wonderful @katebradbury.bsky.social
It puts into words everything that mum feels passionately in her heart about the natural world 💚 Hedgehogs feature prominently! We urge EVERYONE to read it

📣 1 of 2: Looking ahead to next month’s #CatChatBookClub, we’ll embrace our traditional “Non-Fiction-November” theme (not compulsory of course). I hope you’re happier about it than I look in the pic 😹 Biographies, true crime, history books, cookery books, craft/hobbies books…

hooray, one of the 2 libraries I belong to, has this as e-book-thanks! Sometimes I read serious novels but sometimes I want a quick thriller and sounds like this fits that! #catchatbookclub My own thriller recs are old- early Tess Gerritsen (the Surgeon); early Patricia Cornwell (Body Farm).

A third book which mum read & which fits the #CatChatBookClub theme is “The Hike” by Lucy Clarke. As a group of female friends go on a hiking trip in challenging terrain, tension and foreboding are in abundance! 🙀 A fast paced thriller altho not ‘outstanding’ in mum’s view.

As well as the “Fright”📕 mum also embraced the “Delight” aspect of our October #CatChatBookClub theme. Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club series has brought her lots of joy over recent years so she was keen to read the latest installment! It did not disappoint! Mum LOVED it 😁

The first book mum chose, for our October #CatChatBookClub theme, was The Small Hand by Susan Hill. Our dear friends @lisaclayton.bsky.social introduced us to this author a few years ago, so she’s our ‘go-to’ now for spooky stories that don’t completely traumatise us!🙀😹👻
We loved it!

My sister’s husband died almost 2 years ago and I read this to see if I thought it would help her.
Joan Didion is very honest in discussing her overwhelming grief over a year’s time in her husband’s sudden death.
