Manager of a small museum in the South East of England✨ I take photos sometimes
I disappeared from this place completely (I haven’t even been lurking so I have no idea what’s going on) but I have returned to say I got notified today that we passed ✨
Just the Museums Development team being the best by giving me a heads up (I did panic)

Trying to organise a holiday in the family group chat. As you can imagine, it’s going really well.

Working at a large museum:
Hi I'm the assistant learning interpretation curator for pre-19th century oil paintings.

Working at a small museum:

There must be an expert on these bear jugs somewhere - I need to know what’s going on with them!
Anyone know an expert on these weirdly sexually explicit bear jugs to just give a run down? Please tell me we've got some potter's diary "Made a jug of a happy but snarling bear playing a solo on his felted flute today - here's what I was thinking..."

I just want to know why!
Not as good as the one we have in Colchester. 🫢😶😬

I’m a strong believer in having a colourful home! This is a dolls house I’ve been working on for my niece’s Christmas present 💫

Every year the last email I send is a version of “thank you for all your hard work” to the volunteers and it’s probably my favourite email to write.

Thanks Millie of the past, this is really helpful. Really couldn’t have managed social media stuff without this.

Always know where your favourite knife is otherwise you might have to use a different knife to chop an onion and you might end up cutting your finger as well as the onion. Just some advice that may or may not be based on my evening 🧅

This is less about sleep (I am tired though) and more about how bizarre I still find it that I get to manage a museum
I’ve started a new thing where I stay up too late like I did when I was a teenager accept I can’t wake up whenever I want because I have somewhere to be in the morning. An actual museum that people visit will not open tomorrow unless I wake up on time!

I feel a bit out of touch with this place and museum stuff generally because I’ve been off work and struggled settle back in! Wondering how everyone’s weeks in museum-land are going? Or whatever land you tend to occupy

When I’m on my own account and I see posts from the museum’s account that I wrote on my timeline I get a weird sort of jump scare

The default empty text box on Bluesky saying "What's up?" is playing a dangerous game.

Worked from my parent’s house this afternoon and was not impressed with my colleague, who decided to take an extended break to have a nap

To explain what the project was: the students developed a story based on some local history, then performed it as an immersive theatre piece to three small audiences (60 people in total!)
This year the museum did a project with theatre students from a local school. I was so impressed with their confidence and the story they created. Most of them will be finishing school next year but tomorrow I get to go and watch their Christmas production ☺️🎄

I bought a new rolling pin today because I needed one the other day and I could have sworn I had one but it was not where it should have been. Anyway, as I arrived home with my new rolling pin I remembered the last one was sacrificed for a random, short lived hobby of making stuff out of clay 🙃

Think I might start working on a big list of cool stuff from museum shops for future inspiration. One day our tiny shop will be wonderful like all the other museum shops I come across 💫

I now have three days off work (two of which are made up of time I’m owed) and of course, I’m starting to feel ill 🤒

Okay, I feel like I should do an introduction because I’ve just been out here posting about Quality Street and all anyone knows is that I manage a museum, so here’s a thread, I guess.. 🧵
