Fundamentally I cannot comprehend how this measure was rejected in California.
I understand that there are too many ballot initiatives and huge voter drop-offs but forced labor is never acceptable.
There wasn't a "pro slavery" campaign. What was mobilizing "no" voters?

RESULT: The AP calls it for the "no" on California's Prop 6.
This was the ballot measure to remove the allowance for slavery in the state constitution; it would have barred forced prison labor.
