I love military planes and I love being unusually positive.

But mostly planes... that's gonna be a common theme here.
Half-Correct.

Early versions of the F-4 did not have integral cannons due to the belief that missiles and BVR would dominate air combat.

But after the US Government bricked the RoE and F-4s were getting domed, they started building them with cannons again.

It's the Ta-183... I knew the plane model didn't sit in my head right.

Really what ruined it for them is when they made the MiG-25 "Foxbat" that scared the US into making the F-15 and in general just staying ahead of most countries.

The MiG-25 seemed to be good but later turned out to be, as Captain Slicerax called it, a "Paper Tiger."

Being an interceptor the MiG-15 could climb fast and reach altitude much faster than most other jet platforms, such as the F-86 Sabre.

Unfortunately the jet had a laundry list of other issues such as unstable flight characteristics.

They had to promise not to use them in their militaries... so the Russians didn't. They just copied the engine into what is now the Klimlov VK-1.

That engine is used in the now MiG-15 which was a significant upgrade from the MiG-9 and Yak-15.

Germany did extensive studies on the advantages of swept wing jet fighters. The US saw value after Operation Lusty, Russia saw the value after acquiring blueprints of the Ta-152 Germany wanted to build next.

Anyway, due to a previous agreement, Russia was able to buy Nene engines from Rolls-Royce.
