what kind of idiots are storing “encrypted” (that can be decryted) passwords, instead of a hash. Let alone then having then all stored somewhere publicly accessible

Apparently Victoria has (checks notes) $105m just lying around to fix up just their ServiceVictoria system, it seems. Tipping most of that is the digital licence "harmonisation". And not enough skills in the market. #springst

...aside from if you were the whistleblower constable, who still got his backside kicked by the Force after going to the Ombudsman at all. Truly shameless leadership.

I remain quite concerned that the Australian govt is taking advice in this area from Victor Dominello, who was Minister overseeing the NSW digital licence design and rollout, and who is still on a victory lap for it, but doesn't get that it was actually totally stuffed dvuln.com/blog/latest-...

What's clearly missing from this no-fault VO report is the analysis of what financial incentive the school principal absolutely had to not report this to police (Failure to disclose), leaving reporting to police up to the staff member who saw the paedophile put a hand up an 8 year old girl's dress.

After a kick up the arse from the feds, for a digital licence system not being compliant with the encryption, security & protocol/handshakes reqd by the international mobile driver licence std, ISO/IEC 18013-5:2021...just needs $105m of "prompt engineering", right? austroads.gov.au/latest-news/...

July 15, 2025 at 10:42 AM
absolutely - the priority should be to fix the "dangerous" level crossings, rather than lumping ones which are "congested" into the mix, that are a bit of a hassle because you need to wait at the boom gates every so often.

welcome to the world of non-actioned complaints to the incompetent Victorian Commission for Children and Young People... a $15m/year waste of taxpayer money that sits on its hands, and does nothing to hold offenders accountable, or protect children
July 15, 2025 at 4:31 AM
It will only happen if it is a marginal seat.
I also always loved the b.s. combination of "congested and dangerous" into a singular, never-just-one-or-the-other, description of level crossings by Vic govt ministers in hi-vis and hard hats.

such high quality record keeping in the childcare industry (and regulation of it, by an incompetent QARD), when it has been up to parents and other carers to blow the whistle on the other places this guy worked
