Having set up Xcode Cloud this week I’m not very impressed. It’s terribly buggy. My third ever build suffered from “an error” that seemingly had nothing to do with my own code. I can’t access build logs in Xcode itself, at first due to a bug supposedly fixed in 2023. 1/5

I take a dim view of these lawsuits because, despite their protestations to the contrary, Epic, Spotify, et al are concerned with their own desire to keep a greater revenue share and not with the interests of small developers. But something has really gone wrong when Apple’s UX teams are… 1/2

What is going on in Cupertino? macOS 15.4 managed to break Mail notifications by leaving the AI categorization features half applied after I pressed the “no thanks” button. Now 15.4.1—supposedly a mere security update—has managed to break something as fundamental as showing the contents of a stack.

Good UI matters.

Decided to build my onboarding in SwiftUI and I’m just amazed that anyone deemed this acceptable to ship for macOS. No cursor change when hovering a link in a `Text` view or indeed a pressed state when pressing it. No `nextKeyView` support so it’s impossible to tab between text fields…

Extraordinary spinelessness here: blaming the decision on Executive Orders that only apply to federal agencies.

Whatever one thinks of the DEI programs in question I wouldn’t want to invest in a company run by a CEO who’s too much of a coward to take responsibility for her own decisions.

14 years later and the first five tracks aren’t available on streaming services. Music licensing is really stupid.

Not surprised that the masterful Shōgun soundtrack was my most played album of 2024, nor that Richter was my most played artist.

I am pretty amazed though that I apparently listened to Luke Howard more than anyone else in the entire last.fm userbase!

Today I’ve discovered a whole new kind of fun: trying to execute JavaScript from Swift using JavaScriptCore 😭.

It did get much less painful after I discovered `isInspectable` which allows you to use the Safari web inspector to debug the JS Context and work out which APIs the JS env supports.

I don’t think I will ever understand how I spent 85 hours playing Death Stranding. The vast majority of the game consists of delivering packages and collecting resources to build roads, and yet somehow it’s weirdly addictive?

Discovered that `NSCollectionViewPrefetching` instructs you to prefetch items on average 37 microseconds before they come into view. Real useful if you’re creating Mac apps for flies, not so much otherwise.

(This is for variable size items so maybe it behaves better with fixed size.)

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is absolutely breathtaking. The cinematics in particular are gorgeous.

An odd omission though: it doesn’t play its own music when focused on the PS5 home screen. A weird thing not to bother with when spending years creating a thorough remaster.

I really don’t like the ports on the front of the Mac mini. It’s not even symmetrical! If they’re willing to keep the charging port on the underside of the Magic Mouse for aesthetics then I think they should have been willing to not put ports on the front of the mini.
