I of course jest: elite Britain is having a hell of a time with anything that challenges a rigid notion of gender.

Okay, but if it *does* have to be explained: vampire. Oh, you saw him in daylight? You don't think Q has a solution for that?

"Yes, I know you're a woman, and James is an unusual name for a woman. Why is that a big deal? You murder people for the state. Moving on, let's talk about how you'll be doing that..."

Ah, yeah, Article 1 Section 5 is interpreted as giving Congress exclusive control over its membership. No, Pennsylvania can't get rid of him until 2028. The Senate writ large can, but lol

Yes. I'm just thinking about in aggregate, and more for state level executive positions than federal legislative (actually...can you even recall congressfolk?). *Most* politicians are not bait-and-switch, but most politicians can become easily frightened do-nothings, increasing gridlock.

I have mixed feelings on this. Fetterman has been an awful disappointment, but I think allowing for recalls could have bad effects in a state as purple as Pennsylvania. Constant tit-for-tat votes, leading to politicians playing it very, very safe.

I wonder how they would feel about my son who is very white, and has some % of distant English ancestry, and was born here, but is being raised by Americans. I doubt the accent is going to be the deciding factor.

And you can see how this is changing even in elite discourse, with Stella Braverman now asserting that Englishness requires an ancestral component. Seems bad, man.

In part. I think it’s trying to assert that people of colour (yes autocorrect let’s use the U this time) might be British, as a sort of technicality, but they can never be English. Straightforward racism.
Complicated by many but by no means all PoCs here having a British but not English identity.

If one were to devise a way to refer to these isles and nations that was not offensive to someone, its non-offensiveness would immediately make it suspect
