We're killing people for no reason, the President is pardoning corrupt drug lords and politicians, and for the first time in decades, more children are dying around the world. And that's just today. It was very clear all of this idiocy would happen. Republicans were too greedy to stop it.

The problem with making a big deal about the Epstein files is of course he's in there. Of course he was part of it. But even if perfect evidence is released, the GOP is way too far in to give up now. They were wrong when they started and they'll be wrong when it's over but they'll never admit it.

I mean, it goes without saying that if you're in California, you've got to vote yes on Prop 50. And make sure to stare down the armed federal agents watching you do it -- they're scared of people voting, and they should be.

Ted Chiang: “AI systems lack preferences... The companies that sell AI systems might benefit if you develop an emotional relationship with their product, so they might create the illusion that AI systems have preferences... It might have value to corporations, but there is no value for you.”
Life Is More Than an Engineering Problem | Los Angeles Review of Books
Julien Crockett speaks with Ted Chiang about the search for a perfect language, the state of AI, and the future direction of technology.

So: General strike until the shutdown ends and health care is restored?

I mean, in 2019 they literally suggested injecting disinfectant to fight COVID-19, so the "historic embarrassment" has been happening for six years plus now.
This autism press conference is an insult to science and medicine. It is a bunch of shameless male quacks shoveling bullshit at pregnant women, families and people with autism. This is a historic embarrassment for America and it is wildly dangerous.

Still can't believe how quickly the Republican Party has rejected any semblance of what they claimed America stood for. Separation of church and state, checks and balances of US government, a government for the people, and the quote on the Statue of Liberty. Burned it all the second they could.

Reading about Peter Thiel's obsession with the Antichrist, and... oh boy. There is something rotten in Silicon Valley.

Kudos to Brazil for holding Bolsonaro accountable. Sure wish we could hold criminals who steal political power accountable in the US, like the President. We're too busy sending the National Guard to chase innocent immigrants around.

Conservatives on the Supreme Court should be ashamed of themselves. They are selling out this country for their own dumb political, religious, racist beliefs and they don't even have the guts to say that out loud.

Rest in piss to James Dobson. No one was more innovative in dressing up hate and bile as "family values." Nonsense -- loving the people around you, no matter who they are, is what makes real family. Dobson can rot in hell.

Oh me? Nothing much, just catching up on all of the masked US soldiers that are kidnapping my friends and neighbors every day. Incredible how quickly we got to this, how many insecure dorks put on a uniform this morning and said, "Yup, time to go club some more guys because they don't look like me."

Trying to post more positively here. A new idea: The States of America United. A completely new system that acknowledges the past, but sets a new legal system forward designed around life, liberty, and justice for all. And then, I guess, we vote it in? Some details to work out.

So Republicans are now publicly fighting to stop free and fair elections in America. That's where we're at: Republicans are against everyone having a say in the country. They have rejected the most American of values. They are officially anti-democracy. Traitors all.

AI is a truly incredible innovation... for people who are just fine with "good enough." Many of us hope for better.

The EPA is essentially in full revolt: www.standupforscience.net/epa-declarat... Hiding scientific reports doesn't change their findings. We are headed for a troubled future with climate change, and kneecapping the EPA and other related organizations will only make things worse for all of us.

Shame on the Republicans in Congress for what they have done to our country. We're all going to suffer for decades (and many of us will die) because of the bill they're about to sign into law, all so the rich can get richer.

Inequality is terrible, and Republicans are making it worse. Climate change is terrible, and Republicans are making it worse. Empathy is needed, and Republicans are arresting anyone who doesn't look like them. This is a shameful chapter in American history, and Republicans are to blame.

Trying to imagine the best future possible, and it all kind of hinges on electing different people (people who actually care about the future and making it better for as many as possible, not just rich white idiots). Here's hoping we get the chance to do that again.

Shaking my head at our country today. We were so close to never hearing from this jackass ever again. Instead, ICE is arresting people without cause, we're handcuffing senators, and now he's threatening to mess with interest rates. Insanity.
June 13, 2025 at 2:40 AM
The situation in LA only ends one of two ways: ICE stands down, or Americans end up getting killed by their own military on their own soil. I hope that the federal government is able to find some sanity before a tragedy happens.

People are saying this new pope is really smart, but if he still believes the world was created by a big old guy with a beard in the sky who determines where everyone spends their eternity, you know, how smart can he actually be?

If we're seriously talking about revoking Harvard's tax exempt status, then how about we start talking about churches? We can start with Scientology and the Jehovah's Witnesses, who are both tax exempt, for example.

Sorry to hear about the passing of Jill Sobule. Her album meant a lot to me back in the late '90s (and since). Didn't even know who I was yet, but stories of lost love and catchy melodies about secrets and tragedy really resonated with me.
