Veho and #Swiss #robotics startup Rivr are zeroing in on last-mile deliveries with a new pilot #program launching in Austin, which puts Rivr’s four-wheeled, stair-climbing #delivery robots to work alongside delivery vans.

RaaS seems like the future of warehouse robotics to me. One issue with robots is the huge up-front cost, but RaaS does minimise it, and places the onus on the service company to keep the robots working well.

In theory, I don't agree. In practice, 100% - we are not ready for a humanoid robot workforce yet. The fact it's so common for people to try makes it seem like the media coverage is more important than the automation. Am I being cynical?
Wrong option for ALOT of work.

Complexity is a killer in the robotics space, folks.

A cost center that can get away from you REALLY quick.

I have seen it at many shops over the years.

And most humanoid robots (or the ones getting the most hype and funding these days) are extremely complex.

This sounds great! Hopefully there's a recording of the keynote to catch up with afterwards.
Oh hey, I forgot to announce that I am giving a keynote talk at the Workshop on Safely Leveraging Vision-Language Foundation Models in Robotics at ICRA2025 Friday sites.google.com/stanford.edu...

I'm going to make an argument that Value Alignment and Explainable AI are two sides of the same coin.

Great job, Tullamore! I've competed in VEX, and it's a great way to get started in robotics. The older competitions have rounds where the robots act autonomously too. Check it out if you haven't seen it before!

My first thought was that the material would create drag when flying normally, but they actually retract the wings when not needed. Really cool stuff!

It's a shame that the Guardian focused so much on the humans vs robots job part, instead of the great new tech that we're seeing in robots. Can't wait to see more details about what Amazon Robotics has achieved.

This blog post does a good job of showing why something very simple for a human becomes difficult for a robot. As we know, the fix for a jammed drawer is to straighten it before pushing again - that means our robots have to be smarter for even this simple manipulation.
