Loved joining @emmaturner75.bsky.social and @teacherhead.bsky.social for a chat on @mindthegappodcast.bsky.social this week. Out soon.

I've got a new addition to my profile bio out of it...!

This term's CEN (Centre for Educational Neuroscience) seminars look great (as usual).

4-5 every Thursday. Highly recommended for any teachers interested in research

“wisdom which will encourage you to think more deeply about learning, rather than just creating ‘lessons’.”

Such lovely recent feedback for www.amazon.co.uk/How-Teach-Ps...

This was exactly what @paulclinepsy.bsky.social and I were hoping to achieve.

@profcoe.bsky.social and Raj Chande at #REd25 There are a *small* number of teachers who we can currently say are statistically (with 95% confidence) better or worse than average for student results… but even the ‘best’ teachers have individual classes who have negative progress, and vice versa!

‘Misinformation correction’ corrections are sometimes said to have the danger of backfire effects - entrenching people’s opinions all the more… but actually these claims have not replicated well.

We should NOT shy away from correcting misinformation if we see it in schools.

Young people need to know as much as possible about the different cognitive enhancers, as well as what we know (and don’t know!) about how they work and what they do.

How we view the boosting of human capabilities can vary somewhat between contexts… interesting philosophical debate, although there are differences between these cases I think

Some potential advances in the field of brain-computer interfaces. Some pretty dystopian possibilities if we do not get ahead of the field and think about what we want and how.

Much conscious information processing occurs in the region of 10 bits/sec. Sensory processing occurs 100 million times faster!

This is why we as teachers need to teach in a way which respects the capacity limitations of the brain!
