As far as I’m aware, Roy Clarke claimed he got the idea for the Bucket joke from someone named Bottom who insisted their name was pronounced Botome. But given the viewing figures for Seeds of Doom it’s quite likely he saw it on transmission.
Maybe it is just a big coincidence.

But in both cases, the “error” is greeted with the same sighing correction and insistence that the name is French, with similar cadence. The names themselves are almost identical. Both jokes invoke the social class of the named person.

In Seeds of Doom, Amelia’s name is Ducat, it really is French, it really is pronounced the French way. She also appears to genuinely be the sort of upper class person that Hyacinth aspires to be. The Doctor mispronouncing her name as Ducket is his error (or him taking the piss).

In KUA, Hyacinth’s name is Bucket, but her pretensions to higher social status won’t permit her to live with such a silly name and so she insists that it’s French and pronounced Bouquet. Richard makes quite clear that actually it is Bucket and “it was always Bucket until I met you”.
