100 years ago, WCS scientist Marie Fish (left) confirmed for the first time that American eels begin their lives in the Sargasso Sea.

At #CITESCOP20, writes WCS’s Jake LaBelle, it’s up to all of us to ensure their journey continues.

Have you ever seen a baby gar eating?

This little Spotted Gar is about a week old and has started feeding on zooplankton (in this case brine shrimp/Artemia/ aka "sea monkeys").

For context, the funding being terminated is 50% of Maine Sea Grant's budget. Cutting $4.5 million won't make a drop in the overall federal budget, but will decimate the program. Maine Sea Grant, like all Sea Grant programs, exists to serve the American people. The return on investment is huge.
