Software developer at Microsoft doing macOS and iOS stuff, formerly Xbox and Apple. Assume I’m skeptical of ${tech fad of the week}. It’s too cold wherever I am.

I stayed near there a couple of summers ago, and it was wild seeing them chilling on the train. Watching on TV does not accurately demonstrate how large these men are!

Damn, I never played the original and assumed I would toss this on my backlog. Looks like I’m playing it a whole lot sooner than that.

That said, I tried inverting the X-axis in DK Bananza to see how it felt (Y-axis already inverted, naturally). Such nostalgia! Like playing Mario Sunshine again. But it also messed with 20+ years of non-inverted X-axis camera controls, so I flipped it right off. Sometimes you can't go home again.

Thinking back, I also expected the X-axis to invert on 3D platformers back in the GameCube and PS2 era. Somehow I shook that, possibly because of Halo, once my even older preferences from flight sims took over (inverted Y, standard X). That's how I play to this day.

Anecdotally, I’ve seen this in family members who’ve lived through food scarcity when they were young. When push comes to shove, they instinctively lean towards maximizing calories.

Don’t think this explains everyone, but I guess I see where these specific folks got the habit from.

Picross! Love to fill the little squares and make a cool picture at the end.
