Then, you can either go look for the missing pieces or analyze the range of options for what the picture could be based on the pieces you have and those that are missing.

The key now for the Japanese government is finding the appropriate legal pathway and then ensuring that the SDF is tied in closely with Ministry of Environment, prefectural, and municipal authorities.

We'll see what comes of it, but this problem will not go away on its own.

The bear population had started to become a noticeable problem when I was living in #Niigata back in 2017-19, and I had long thought that the SDF was a viable option.

It allows for a practical exercise in military planning and operations while addressing a real world problem.

While it may seem an impractical option for the Japanese government, the reality is that there are not enough civilian hunters to manage the problem, and local police in these areas are not equipped to respond effectively to these massive animals when they get aggressive.
