Derrick Young, Jr., & Jonathan Allen of the Leadership Brainery, accepting the Empowerment Award: This time is bittersweet, because our organization, our whole space is under attack. But we must continue with hope, as this work is necessary -- like eliminating barriers along the education pathway.

Next is Jacqui Bowman, executive director of Greater Boston Legal Services, recipient of the BBA Voice of Change Award: No one person does change work alone, and it doesn't happen overnight. Keeping the pathways to justice open, removing the barriers that keep people in poverty -- that's what we do.

Long day but I'm back to post a little about the BBA's 15th annual Beacon Awards, hosted by President Matt McTygue.

Now BBA President Matt McTygue talks about how legal representation promotes stability for individuals, for families, and for communities.
By giving clients a sense they had a fair chance to make their case, and a restored faith in the judicial system, it even supports democracy and rule of law.

Victoria Santoro, Mass. Bar Ass'n President, highlights the great need for legal services' help with housing matters, especially a challenge at this coldest time of year.
