so you want to buy some property in the mountains? no one warned us that that may mean searching for a well head in 3ft deep snow

A month into running the UNAS Pro, and I'm darn happy. The price is right for a 7-bay 2U NAS, and paired with an Intel NUC or similar, it runs laps around equivalent Synology setups. It leaves a bit to be desired on the feature side, but performance and reliability have been great so far.

I would love to understand why the Rivian de-rates while charging so early and so aggressively. It's 30 degrees out, so I can't imagine it's the ambient temp causing it. It has to be the most frustrating part of road trips with this vehicle.

Loved this workbench in the greenhouse at a family friend's house. The lighting, colors, and utility stood out; you can't fake this aesthetic.

In Arkansas, the charging infrastructure is lacking, but we have a 60-amp plug for the Rivian. It took some effort, but now it's charging well. No range anxiety when you can charge at your destination on long, remote trips like this.

Our final stop was at an EVConnect in Missouri, adding 92 kWh in under an hour. The charger maxed out at 119 kW. We grabbed Five Guys while it charged, allowing it to exceed the route recommendation. We arrived at our destination in Arkansas with a 35% state of charge.

We left Kansas City Sunday morning with a 35% charge, stopping at EVgo/GM/Flying J in Missouri for an 80 kWh recharge in 40 minutes. I really like the more traditional rest stop here, with covered charging and all of the amenities. I hope they add more of these along the route.

Next, we stopped at a Supercharger in Albine, KS adding 111 kWh in just under an hour while grabbing lunch at a local grocery store. We made it to KC with 15% SoC left, but topped off 42 kWh in 20 minutes at a Supercharger before dinner in the city.

We left early Saturday morning, using Driver+. Our first stop was in Burlington at a ChargePoint, adding 40 kWh in 20 minutes while grabbing breakfast. Our next stop was a Supercharger in Oakley, KS where we added 105 kWh in just over an hour while the kids played at a playground

The first half of our annual 1800-mile Thanksgiving road trip is in the books, this time with the Rivian R1S. I'm sharing the play-by-play and some stats for the nerds.

The Rivian did great in the backcountry. I pushed the max battery pack to the limit, with the closest charger about 100 miles away from camp and over three days off the grid. Definitely a confidence boost for future off-road adventures

Lots to love about the X100VI, but why did they put this flimsy focus mode selection switch on the side of the camera, where your hand can easily accidentally change it? I've missed more photos than I can count by inadvertently switching it to manual mode without realizing.

Incredible that you can still get them on day 2 all over Denver. Seems the steep price tag and lack of a killer app is definitely softening demand.
