Very excited to post this preprint... making a species that doesn't hibernate do something a lot like it, AND showing it is cardioprotective.

Synthetic torpor in the rat recapitulates key features of natural torpor and is cardioprotective
During hibernation, animals enter torpor, a reversible physiological state typically characterised by reductions in core temperature, heart rate and oxygen consumption. Species that enter this hypothe...

🧵1/15 Delighted to share our study on the naked mole-rat (NMR): a mammal with bizarre thermal biology, notorious longevity, and cancer resistance. But how do NMRs maintain (or fail to maintain) their body temperature? Our latest work digs deep! #ThermalBiology #Thermogenesis

This trial demonstrated the dangers of algorithmic adaptive trial design. Miscoding meant that pts were put into the wrong arms. The authors say that despite the trial not having internal validity it should be regarded as having validity outside of how it was conducted. I am not convinced. #EMIMCC

The reason we were all watching the Challenger launch is because it was quite literally an assignment for us to do so.

Can't help but contrast this to today's flight. Back in the day, space flight was for science and learning (and yes, industry). Now? It's vanity.

In 1931, Italian scholars were made to take loyalty oaths. Will that happen to us?
