The Velvet-purple Coronet is a hummingbird endemic to the western slope of the Andes mountains from Colombia south into Ecuador. The bird appears all black until you catch it at the correct angle to show off deep purple iridescence. 🪶

Here is a cockroach that is much better looking and more useful* than the current occupant of the White House.

*Almost all cockroach species are omnivorous critters that break down debris in the environment. They don't invade homes or bother people.

Here's a leaf-footed bug nymph with a sparkly blue booty. Maybe this is a means of confusing predators? Juveniles and adults can produce a defensive scent so it could be warning coloration too.
