I think that's the main thing. Overall, it's a great game, but I can't say it 100% follows on the footsteps of it's predecessors.
The choice of the art style indeed doesn't help on that... the main "ouch" moment for me was when darkspawnned appeared.
I mean... things were DARK back then.
