Bought this for $1; the cover was cool and it sounded fun. (An even more sardonic “Running Man”? Yes, please!) But it was the laudatory pull quotes from Douglas Adam’s AND John Le Carré that persuaded me.

Read the first two books in the Heechee Saga by Frederik Pohl. Knew he was important in SFF, but only knew him from that quote about not just predicting cars but being able to predict traffic jams.
Both good, but liked Gateway more.

It’s available in English and I read the first chapter. Pretty good translation. Does a great job of capturing the protagonist’s voice.

Read ババヤガの夜 (Night of the Babayaga) a few weeks back. Pretty fun action-crime story starts straightforward but takes a few sharp turns I didn’t see. It definitely falls into the category of fuck the yakuza and doesn’t romanticize them at all.

Finished reading Exit 8 (8番出口) based on the movie that’s based on the game. Interesting to see how they added a narrative to something that doesn’t really have one. It’s a fun read. Good for Japanese practice for those interested because tons of repetition, obviously.

Went into this volume thinking Denji was going to be betrayed by institutions/people he trusted. Nope! Turns out the real villain is a belligerent and warmongering America. Fujimoto doesn’t pull punches

Dragonball Z: Hyper Dimension for the Super Famicom by Bandai. This the final DBZ game for the SFC. It came out after the PS1 debuted. Graphics are great, but it’s sloooow. Not as fun as Super Butoden 2, but it has a story mode and it wraps the DBZ storyline where the anime finished.
